Sacramento Music FestivalAs always, it’s one giant party in Old Sacramento during Memorial Day Weekend, and this year was no exception.

In its 39th year, the Sacramento Music Festival, originally named the Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, has evolved with the changing times to include other styles of music in addition to classic jazz and swing.

This year’s line-up not only includes Traditional Jazz, Classic Jazz and Swing, but also Jazzy Blues and Rockin’ Blues, R&B / Soul / Funk / Gospel, New Orléans 2nd-line (street beat), Western Swing / Country / Bluegrass, Ragtime, Latin, Cajun / Zydeco, Mainstream Jazz, Marching bands / big bands, and all kinds of party bands.

The event kicks off as always on Friday afternoon, features a big parade (now) on Saturday morning, then sparkles with Mardi Gras beads all throughout the holiday weekend, propelled by a number of unique shows along the way: marching bands, tribute concerts, party bands, Sunday morning gospel sets, over a dozen youth groups, and more.

Sacramento Music Festival 2012 – A Family Event for All!

Sacramento Music Festival 2For over 10 years now, my husband and I have attended the Sacramento Music Festival in Old Sacramento.

In 2006 when our family grew with the birth of our twins, we had no hesitation on bringing them with us to enjoy this yearly party in Old Sacramento. Now that our expanding family not only includes our twins, but our 18 month old toddler and with a new baby on the way, we still continue to bring our entire family to this family fun-filled weekend in Old Sacramento.

Children can dance to the music on any of the stages at each venue, enjoy some of the amazing festival food and sweets, sip on some hand squeezed lemonade, ride an excursion train, visit the CA State Railroad Museum (which has a huge Thomas the Tank play area for children upstairs), or just sit back and relax and enjoy the music. New this year, children 12 years and under are FREE!!!

Join us at the Sacramento Music Festival 2012 this Memorial Day Weekend! Sip suds on a riverboat, ride a train, explore the CA State Railroad Museum, learn about the Gold Rush, dance and enjoy some music!
